Speaking on Monday at the World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi, BYD General Manager Zhao Tong outlined the Chinese battery and electric vehicle manufacturer’s intention to boost solar in the region.
“We hope to bring our solar products and storage technologies to optimize the photovoltaic sector as a more reliable and stable energy source,” stated Zhao. “Our involvement in the Middle East will help the region achieve affordable solar power generation, efficient energy storage and electric public transportation.”
BYD has an existing partnership with Abu Dhabi based firm Masdar, and was the winner of the 2016 Zayed Future Energy Prize, which is sponsored by Masdar. The two are reported to be collaborating on various projects in the MENA region, including PV and electric vehicle projects.
