Citing the growing significance of Taiwans dynamic PV market, Heraeus Photovoltaics has opened a new facility in the country to manufacture front-side metallization paste.
Part of the German groups expansion in East Asia, the new fab is set to begin operation on Nov. 1 in Taipei. Heraeus said the move to add front-side metallization production to the company's regional operations was in response to the growing role Taiwan is playing for groups growth strategy.
The new fab will complement the local sales, technical staff and back-side paste production Heraeus currently has in Taiwan. The company said its expanded presence in the country will enable it to provide a more comprehensive and integrated approach to supporting customers in Taiwan and across the Asia-Pacific region.
Heraeus President Andreas Liebheit said superior supply chain management to customers was a driving force to expand capabilities in Taiwan. "In order for us to offer customization and shorten lead times for customers, it is vital to have a strong operational presence where our customers are, and Taiwan has grown to become an important market for us."
Pete Horan, Heraeus VP of Operations, stressed that adding local front-side metallization paste production capabilities would enable the company to collaborate with its customers more closely and raise the bar in terms of the responsive service we provide to them."
Heraeus established its Taiwan site in 2012 when it began manufacturing back-side paste in the country. In 2014, the company opened local manufacturing in China, complemented by the installation of two product modification labs in China and Taiwan in early 2015.
