Under SCEs fourth round of solar procurement, SunEdison Inc. has secured PV rooftop contracts totaling 33 MW. The solar development company has been awarded projects in all rounds.
The 17 systems will be built across industrial rooftops across Californias Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Los Angeles Counties. They are scheduled to be operational in 2016, at which time, SunEdisons yieldco platform, TerraForm Power will acquire them. Operation and maintenance will be performed by SunEdison.
SCEs aptly named Solar Photovoltaic Program, aims to upgrade and modernize the power grid in densely populated areas, and to reduce power disruptions. The utility will buy the generated solar power via a 20 year PPA.
"We are very pleased to be working with Southern California Edison to modernize and upgrade the utility grid," said SunEdison Managing Director of Western USA Distributed Generation Sam Youneszadeh. "As this project demonstrates, solar systems can be sized and strategically located to provide maximum benefit to both the utility grid and California homeowners and businesses."
