SolarWorld has selected the MB PERC platform to carry out PERC upgrades after an in depth testing an evaluation phase. The equipment will allow the upgrade of 400 MW of PERC cell production at SolarWorlds production facilities located in Germanys southwest.
The MAiA 2.1 platform allows for cell coating, according to Meyer Burgers PERC process. The equipment upgrades will be completed by the late 2015.
SolarWorld has achieved mono-PERC cell efficiencies of 21.4% and claims to be an industry leader with the technology, having begun producing PERC cells in 2014.
"SolarWorld was and is a technological pioneer in the industry," said company CEO Frank Asbeck. "We offer competitive products with high-tech and top quality providing our customers special added value.
The company already produces PERC cells and modules at manufacturing sites in the U.S. and Germany. The latest upgrade is for production at its Freiberg manufacturing operations.
On March 12 SolarWorld is hosting an event to mark one year since its acquisition of the Bosch solar manufacturing operations.
