Spanish EPC company Grupotec Renewables has begun construction of 12 solar parks in the United Kingdom with a combined capacity of 186 MW, bringing its portfolio to 400 MW of installed capacity in the country.
Grupotec, which has been developing the installations over the past six months, will carry out the projects for Lightsource Renewable Energy, the U.K.'s leading solar energy company. Grupotec expects to complete the projects during the first quarter of 2015, an accomplishment the company said would be a milestone for the company. The plants will range in size from 6.5 MW to 29.7 MW, totaling 186 MW.
The company is also busy on the other side of the pond, where it will begin building a 30 MW solar park in Mexico in the first quarter.
In the three years that Grupotec has been operating in the U.K., it has erected 32 PV parks with a total capacity of 220 MW, making it the No. 2 leading EPC company in the country last year, according industry reports. With the 12 new parks currently under construction, Grupotec's U.K. assets will climbe to 400 MW of total installed power, giving it an 8.5% market share in the country.
The company's current endeavors in the U.K. will employ more than 3,000 workers, 715,000 PV modules and 4.6 million meters of cable.
