JA Solar multi-Si 60-cell solar module sets output record, surpasses 280 W

JA Solar on Monday said the rated power of its solar modules equipped with 60 multi-crystalline silicon (multi-Si) cells has surpassed 280 W, describing the result as "a new milestone."

This newly achieved result, which has been independently confirmed and certified by TÜV Rheinland of Germany's Shanghai Testing Center, sets a record-high 17.2% conversion efficiency to date for the PV panels consisting of 60 regular industrial size (156 by 156 square milimeters) multi-Si cells and using a single standard junction box.

"This latest result of above 280 W output power achieved from multi-Si modules with 60 cells is the continued effort of our R&D and follows JA Solar's recently announced progress in reaching new efficiency record of multi-Si solar cells," said JA Solar President Jian Xie.

JA Solar Chief Operating Officer Yong Liu added that the output power of the record-setting solar modules can be further improved by fine tuning the company's module assembly process and encapsulation materials. "At least another five watts increase is definitely achievable," Liu said. "That will add significant value for our down-stream customers in terms of increasing power generation and reducing installation cost."
