The PERC solution entails the wet bench cleaning, APCVD deposition and the LTM PERC laser treatment. The new tool lowers the cost of ownership about 25% compared to alternative processes as the company states. The cell efficiency is expected to start at 20%. Schmid states that it has developed an easy-to-integrate solution for existing Schmid wet process systems. Some key benefits are that the system is easy to integrate into existing lines. Moreover there is no extra polish and heat treatment involved. The Schmid laser treatment or LTM for local passivation is also optimized for PERC production. The system is able to provide a high throughput, exceeding standard systems by 30-100% as Schmid says and the contact-free handing solution avoids cell damage and breakage.
