For the third general assembly, more than 800 delegates from 136 nations and 74 organisations came to Abu Dhabi. They gathered to discuss achievements and challenges in the field of renewable energies.

As the first project, IRENA launched an atlas that shows the potential of wind and solar energy all over the world at the click of a button. In order to attract investments and double the share of renewable energies until 2030, other renewable energies are planned to be integrated in the atlas this year as well.

The United Arab Emirates have been the biggest supporter of the IRENA budget in 2012. Out of the US$28.4 million, they contributed US$7.9 million. The second biggest payer has been Germany with US$4.5 million. The other member states donated US$16 million.
