Island economies continue to be strong markets for solar photovoltaics. Another example of this has been provided by German-based Conergy, which has annouced another large rooftop installation on the Canary Islands. The installation will be spread across three rooftops, worth 500 kW, has also been announced on the roof of a vegetable wholesaler on the island.
Conergy has previously installed a 1.7 MW array, the largest on the islands, on Gran Canary.
"The sun-kissed islands are virtually predestined for solar power," said Conergys Luis Jiménez Gutierrez, in todays statement announcing the installations. "In most instances, solar power is already considerably cheaper here today than electricity from the grid."
Conergy has been highlighting the post-FIT installations that it has been installing in Spain of late, including a 10 kW plant on a concrete materials manufacturer in northern Spain and an array on an organic restaurant in Barcelona.
