Solon establishes solar JV in Israel

Germany-based Solon has announced the establishment of Solon Elco Renewables Ltd, based in Netanya near Tel Aviv.

In a statement released, Solon said the partnership with Elco, a subsidiary of Electra Ltd, will allow it access to the utility-scale photovoltaic market, due to Elco’s experience in integrating energy sources into Israel’s high voltage network.

"This represents a significant competitive advantage in bids for systems in Israel, which, above 30 MW, are directly integrated into the country’s high voltage network," it said.

Currently, Solon Elco Renewables is said to be working on two photovoltaic plants worth 8.5 MW in Kibbuzim Kramim und Idan, and has plans to bid on projects worth a further 200 MW.

No further details were divulged, and Solon could not immediately comment on the news.
