France-based Saint Gobain opened the new 7,000 square meter coating facility yesterday, October 30, in Cinas Shandong province. While a spokesperson for the company would not reveal how much had been invested in it, they did tell pv magazine that it has an annual production capacity of over 75 million square feet.
The facility will focus on the production of architectural and automotive window films, and photovoltaic backsheets. In response to how much of it will be dedicated to photovoltaics, the spokesperson would only say that it has the flexibility and the capacity to serve both the photovoltaic and window film markets.
"This new facility will serve our valued customers in China and the wider Asian region and enable us to dramatically improve our time to market in this innovative and growing market," they added.
Overall, Saint Gobain has a network of more than 1.800 Quantum and Solar Gard stores in China.
