India: Tapan Solar Energy begins PV module production

Share

Current production capacity is said to be 20 megawatts (MW). However, the company intends to ramp this up to 40 MW by the end of next year. The 30,000 square foot factory is kitted out with automated technology from Europe. Meanwhile, raw materials are said to come from Japan, USA, Taiwan and Belgium.

While Tapan’s current modules have an efficiency of 15 percent, it plans to release a new series, with modules expected to be between one and 1.5 percent more efficient, and possess self-cleaning capabilities. The company also manufacturers CFL- and LED-based solar street lights, solar lanterns, solar charge controllers, and solar water heating systems.

According to Tapan, over 200 distributors have "joined hands" with Tapan, having shown "great interest" in the Elecssol modules. The company concludes by saying that it is now looking for opportunities to work with engineering, procurement and construction contractors in India.
