Sunergy announces 1 GW expansion

The expansion will cost an estimated $280 million (RMB 1.8 billion) and the first batch of cells from the 500 megawatt (MW) lines is expected to be produced in the first half of 2012. Quasar cells have an average efficiency of 18.55 percent from, "the best batch," the company said in a statement.

China Sunergy hopes to increase this efficiency to 19 percent within one year, on the 500 MW line and then 20 percent within two years. Sunergy’s Chief Technology Officer added in the statement: "This level of efficiency, produced at this scale, will reduce costs significantly for our customers."

Land has been provided in the Yi Zheng Economic Development Zone for the facility.
