Speaking at the Sharp Renewable Energy Academy’s launch, CEO Igarashi commented: "We’re experiencing an exponential rise in UK solar installations, so to meet that demand we’re looking for the UK’s top tradespeople to sign-up for the Sharp Renewable Energy Academy. Here they can learn comprehensive, high-quality solar installation skills and gain a valuable advantage over other installers in the growing renewable energy industry."

Courses, including a one day awareness course and a five day PV installation training programme, are offered.

UK homeowners

Sharp states that the UK solar panel installation market is expected to be worth £500 million a year by 2015. It adds that according to new research into UK homeowners views on PV, undertaken by the company, 56 percent of respondents said they would install solar panels on their home.

Furthermore, 86 percent said they would only trust an accredited solar installer to fit their solar panels, while 62 percent are reportedly aware of the benefits of the government’s feed-in tariff scheme. Finally, 48 percent said they are more likely to install solar panels because of the existence of the FIT.

In addition to opening the training academy, Sharp recently expanded its production lines and announced 300 new jobs at its factory in Wrexham.
