Solutia expands solar encapsulant production lines in China

Scheduled to be in operation late next year, the company said the new lines will support its Vistasolar ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) solar encapsulant production. The capacity expansion follows an earlier announcement by the company to include the production of EVA encapsulants at its Suzhou facility.

"The PV market has seen tremendous growth in 2010, and the majority of PV module production is in Asia," said Tim Wessel, president and general manager of Solutia's Advanced Interlayers division. "We continue to invest to meet growing demand and provide cost-effective solar encapsulant solutions in the greater Asia-Pacific region and around the world."

Solutia's EVA encapsulants are currently manufactured in Dietenheim, Germany. The company told pv magazine that the new lines will not replace those in Germany, but will complement them.
