Xcel Energy and SunEdison were partners in the project. It is located in Lea and Eddy counties which borders Texas. A ceremony to mark the milestone on the multi-site project was held yesterday. Two other plants in the project worth 10.9 MW and 10.7 MW are already operational.
Utility Xcel initiated the project in an attempt to meet the states renewable portfolio standards, which require 15 percent of electricity to be sourced from renewables. Xcel provided no up-front capital for the project.
SunEdison is deploying and will maintain the five solar arrays under a 20-year agreement with Xcel. "Proven PV technologies, proven experience and smart utility solutions," said Robert Reichenberger, Vice President of Utility Segment for SunEdison at the event. "Thats why SunEdison is able to provide real solar solutions to our utility clients and their customers."
