China's on-grid solar power capacity will amount to 10 GW by the end of 2013, an increase of 200% compared to a year ago, the National Energy Administration (NEA) said on Wednesday.
The country added 3.6 GW of solar between January and October.
According to a report by the Xinhua News Agency, the NEA forecasts the share of thermal power generation capacity will drop to 69.6% this year from the 71.5% at the end of 2012, while that of hydropower, on-grid wind power and nuclear power are expected to stand at 22.5%, 6.1% and 1.2%, respectively.
China has taken a number of measures to meet its goal of cutting energy use per unit of gross domestic product by 16% by 2015 from 2011 levels, such as increasing investment in clean energy to boost the share of non-fossil fuels in its power structure, Xinhua said.
In the first 10 months of 2013, China doubled its installed capacity from new and renewable energy (including nuclear power) to 35.95 GW, according to the NEA.
A report last month by NPD Solarbuzz predicted new solar installations in China would reach 12 GW in 2014.
Total installed power generation capacity is likely to reach 1,235 GW by the end of the year, the NEA said.
